Welcome to the Brighton Pack 343 Website!

Cub Scouts Meet Here!

In Pack 343, Cub Scouting means “doing.” Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things.

Cub Scouts having FunActivities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting: citizenship awareness, character development, and personal fitness. The activities happen in the individual Dens — Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Webelos — and also within our Pack. The scouts meet with boys in their own grade in weekly den meetings and with all of the other dens in the monthly Pack meetings. Brighton Pack 343 currently has over fifty boys participating in the fun, excitement and learning that Cub Scouting provides.

But equally as important as the Cub Scout activities are the Cub Scout Values: the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout sign, handshake, motto, and salute. The boys learn about Cub Scouting’s strong traditions and statements of values. These are all meant to teach good citizenship and contribute to the boys’ sense of belonging and common purpose.

Welcoming our Newest Pack 343 Bobcats

Cub Scout Tiger Ceremony

Congratulations to our new Bobcats!

We had a Bobcat Ceremony at the December, 2011, Pack meeting, congratulating seven new Tiger Cubs on achieving their Bobcat rank.

As we say in the Bobcat Ceremony: “The Cub Scout spirit is like a campfire. We must add wood to the fire or it will go out. In the same manner, we must add new boys to our pack, or the Cub Scout spirit will go out.” I know that joining Cub Scouting is a commitment on the part of the boys as well as by the Cub parents.

There are uniforms to buy, meetings to attend, badges to earn and outings to travel to. Our Cub parents are making this commitment to their boys and, in effect, to Pack 343. I think I can speak for all of the Pack 343 Den Leaders, Committee members and volunteers when I say a big THANK YOU to our Cub parents for bringing your sons into Pack 343.

We are all working hard to make sure that Scouting is a rewarding and FUN experience for your boys and we welcome your suggestions and appreciate the work you do to help us keep Pack 343 running.

Let’s make Cub Scouting a great journey for our boys!

For Veterans Day: The Star Spangled Banner

Posted on Nov 6, 2011
We had a great time at the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Brighton! Thanks to all the scouts and parents who came out to support our veterans.

Here’s a video that I thought was interesting. It tells the story behind the Star Spangled Banner:

Thank you, Veterans!

Wrapping up the 2011-2012 Popcorn Sale

Cub Scout throwing a pie

Eddie's Revenge!

We wrapped up the 2011-2012 Popcorn Sale at the Dec. 12 Pack Meeting.

Congratulations and thanks go out to everyone who helped make the sale a success for the Pack.

Of course, the highlight of the event is the annual pie throwing. Tammy and I braved the onslaught of excited pie throwing Cubs and came out pretty much unharmed. A good time was had by all!

Please note that we still have some outstanding orders and we also have a small inventory of popcorn remaining that we need to sell.

Hint: Cub Scout popcorn makes a great Christmas gift!

Pack 343 September Pack Meeting

We had a great time at the September Pack Meeting Campfire!  The campsite setting was perfect and the weather cooperated just enough to make it a great evening.

Thanks to everyone who participated.  We had lots of “Cheer”, our Webelos I Den did a nice job on the Colors, we had some great skits, songs and Den cheers.  Congratulations to our new Tigers for winning the Spirit Stick!

And, we even had a taker for the Big Can O’ Beans in the Early Bird Raffle.

Successful Fall Cub Scout Roundup!

Cub Scouts on ScooterPack 343 held a very successful Fall Round-up on Thursday, September 15th at Spencer Elementary. We had a great kickoff with at least 7 new Tigers signing up.

We want to give special thanks to Gavin Rye and Reid Shinabarker from Boy Scout Troop 350. Thanks guys! They supported the Pack 343 Cub Scout roundup brilliantly by entertaining about 30 cubs and siblings for an hour while the parents attended the Round-up presentation.

No Cub Scouts were injured in the staging of this picture.

Popcorn Sale Update

Fundraising ThermometerWell, we’re coming down to the wire with our 2011 Popcorn Sale Fundraiser. Our Popcorn Kernel, Tammy Musto, tells me that we’re about half way to our goal but she says that many Scouts haven’t yet turned in their sales results so we should see the total climb toward our goal.

Remember, each boy that meets his sales goal of $500 gets to throw a pie at the Cubmaster!

We appreciate the efforts that our Scouts (and parents!) make in this fundraiser. We’ve always tried to make the Popcorn Sale our main — and only — annual fundraising activity. I know that our Scout parents are being asked to help their boys do more and more school fundraising these days so I truly appreciate your efforts in supporting Pack 343′s fundraising this year.

Thanks to our Scouts and Parents for making Pack 343 go!

September is Cub Scout Round-up Month!

Pack 343 is holding our annual Fall Round-Up at Spencer Elementary on Thursday, September 15th.

We’re looking for boys from all grades and their families who want to learn more about the fun, adventure and friendship of Cub Scouting.

You can see what types of activities we have lined up for this year, get some input on other ideas that we may want to pursue and, of course, sign up! We have some exciting events and activities planned for the upcoming Scouting year!

We’re encouraging all Pack 343 Cub Scouts to bring a friend, neighbor or sibling so that they can see what it’s all about.

Hope to See You There!
